Annals of the Oley Valley speaks of the "Great Awakening", a movement by many in the Oley Valley to accept the Moravian Church, as preached by Count Zinzendorf. Franz had signed on in 1741; however, when the Count visited the Valley, Franz didn't like what he was hearing. Franz speaks his mind to the Count and calls him self righteous, then leaves the meeting. This event pretty much stops the movement, the Count later refers to the men of the Oley Valley as liars and pious. Franz
