Second Generation

2. George Casper REIDER2,3,4 was born in 1746 in Oley Township, Berks Co., PA. He died in Feb 1801 in Rockland Township, Berks Co., PA. He was buried in Christ "Mertz's" Church, Rockland Township, PA. US Census of 1790 has George with a family of six, living in Rockland Township. He is reported to have served in the Continental Army. His wife is buried at Mertz's Church, there is no record of George there; but he probably is. I did uncover a note regards records of Mertz's Church cemetery were not recorded till 1812. Catharine's stone is still in place, although barely readable. George had 9 acres in Rockland Township, adjoining lands of Frederick Minder; Abraham Hoch; Peter Angstadt; and William Conrath. Will written 26 January 1801, filed for probate on 24 February 1801. Casper appointed his "good friend" Jacob Griesemer as executor; but Jacob renounced, as did Casper's wife. The will witnesses, Joseph Hoch and Daniel Beckley were appointed executors. Note: Ship's Lists have a Caspar Reider arrived in Philadelphia on 25 November 1763 on ship "Pallas." If this is the same Casper then he is most likely not related to any other Reiders in Berks County, despite old tradition of a relationship.

George Casper REIDER and Maria Catherine SCHUCK were married on 16 Dec 1776. (Where did I get a 16 Dec 1786 marriage date? Think I will shave 10 years off of it.) Maria Catherine SCHUCK3,5 was born on 11 May 1750. She died on 10 Apr 1835 in Rockland Township, Berks Co., PA. She was buried in Christ "Mertz's" Church, Rockland Township, PA. George Casper REIDER and Maria Catherine SCHUCK had the following children:

i.

Martin REIDER was born in 1778 in Rockland Township, Berks Co., PA. Noted as oldest son in Casper's will. Possible son Martin is in Penn Township in 1860 Census.

ii.

Godfried REIDER was born about 1780 in Rockland Township, Berks Co., PA. Second born son. Additional data from a Debra Barnhart note on the Internet. I'm thinking Godfried maybe George. Godfried is an out of context name for the Reiders.

George REIDER6 was born in 1782 in Rockland Township, Berks Co., PA. He died on 5 Jan 1860 in Union County, PA. Was a minor, under 21, when dad died in 1801. A George Reider and Maria Elizabeth had a daughter Elizabeth born 1 June 1807 and baptized at St. Joseph Hill Church on 9 August 1807. The Reading Adler provides a death for George Reiter in Hartleton Township, Union County, PA. Further says he was from Rockland Township, Berks County. This George appears to be a very good fit for that data. Although at current I have one more male child in household of George Caspar than the 1790 Census has. Additional data from a Debra Barnhart note on the Internet. And let me add a marriage note from the Reading Adler - George Reiter, formally of Reading, now living at Derrstown, Union County, married Susanna Aurand, daughter of John. Note: a George and Susanna Reider baptized a child Sara at Zion's Spies Church on 25 June 1897. Child was born 24 May.
