Mary Stitzer REIDER and Robert Albert HORNE were married about 1878. Robert Albert HORNE^3,15,26 was born in 1854 in Allentown, PA. He died on 27 Jul 1912 in Reading, PA. He was buried in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading, PA. Robert and Mary resided in the 500 block of McKnight Street, Reading, PA. Robert was the son of John and Susan Horne of Allentown, PA. When he first arrived in Reading, he was employed with a cabinet maker and later with a carriage works. He was an expert painter of ornamental work. He was appointed a patrolman under Mayor Rick and re appointed under Mayor Stratton. About 1887, Robert, with Reuben Hoffa, organized a mission for the "down and out". This mission became the Hope Rescue Mission in 1894, which exists today at 645 N. 6th Street, Reading. For ten years he was also an evangelistic preacher. He was a member of the Plymouth Brethren sect. After his wife died six years earlier, Robert wrote a short sketch of the work in the mission and paid a great tribute to his helpmate, Mary, who was one of his chief counselors. Mary Stitzer REIDER and Robert Albert HORNE had the following children:

352	i.	Bessie V. HORNE3,4 was born in 1879 in Reading, PA. Married Adam Kurtz on 1 June 1905 in Reading, PA. Adam was born in Wolmelsdorf, PA and lived in Reading where he operated a restuarant.
353	ii.	Mary Jane HORNE3,4,51,62 was born on 28 Jan 1884 in Reading, PA. She died in May 1980. Married Nevin Mengel on 25 April 1906 in Reading. Nevin was born about 1870 in Bedford County, PA. Reported in Rockingham Co., New Hampshire in the 1920 Census. Nevin was an Upholsterer in a Furniture Store. SSDI has a Mary, born 28 Jan 1884 and died May 1980. Card issued in NH; however there is another Mary born 4 Sep 1884 and died December 1983, card issued in PA. Could be either, or neither; but will use the former.
