She died on 21 February 1913 in Pine Forge, Berks Co., PA. She was buried in Bertolet Union Cemetery, Oley Township, PA. Lizzie was the first female doctor in Berks County. She attended the Oley Academy 1866 and 1867. Then attended the Mt. Holyoke Female Seminary, South Hadley, Massachusetts 1867 and 1868. She received her medical training from the Women's Medical College of Philadelphia 1871 and 1872, becoming a medical doctor in 1872. She opened an office in Reading on Elm Street. Suspect there was some resistance to a female doctor, as the family later removed to a farm in Douglassville and finally Pine Forge. She died at home from gangrene. Dr. Elizabeth M. "Lizzie" BERTOLET MD and Francis Monroe R. HEILIG were married on 3 October 1873 in Reading, PA. Francis Monroe R. HEILIG28 was born on 2 March 1846. He died on 15 December 1925 in Berks County, PA.
