Formally of Wyomissing, he died at a home in Birdsboro, PA. Walter worked first for Bethlehem Steel, then later as a machinist for Berkshire International Corp. in Wyomissing, PA, retiring in 1955. He served as President of the Griesemer Reunion Association from 1933 to 1968. He was a member Calvary United Methodist Church, Wyomissing, the Patriotic Order Sons of America and the Berkshire Heights Fire Company. He was also affilated with Lodge 62, Free & Accepted Masons; the Pagoda Club of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Reading and Rajah Temple; Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and its chanters. Walter Ehst GRIESEMER and Edith N. LEVAN were married on 14 September 1915. Edith N. LEVAN1,3 was born on 14 November 1889 in Reading, PA. She died on 5 March 1958. She was buried in Oley Cemetery, Spangsville, Berks Co., PA. Daughter of Harry S. Levan and Amanda Norton. Edith was a school teacher. Walter Ehst GRIESEMER and Edith N. She was buried in Oley Cemetery, Spangsville, Berks Co., PA. | +1074 | ii. | Edith J. GRIESEMER1,49 was born on 5 August 1918 in Bethlehem, PA. She died on 11 November 2005 in Wernersville, PA. She was buried in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Mount Penn, PA. Edith, a retired elementary teacher and principal, died in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville, where she had resided since Oct. 21. She was employed for 34 years as a teacher and as a teacher and principal at St. Lawrence Elementary School in the Exeter School District, retiring June 15, 1973. Edith was a 1937 graduate of Wilson High School and received an associate degree in education from Kutztown State Teacher's College. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1950 from Kutztown. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Wyomissing. She was a former membership chairwoman of the Berkshire Seniors. Surviving is a brother, Walter Griesemer, Wyomissing. | +1075 | iii. | Walter A. GRIESEMER1,49 was born on 23 January 1923 in Reading, PA. He died on 30 August 2009 in Vero Beach, Indian River, FL. Walter A. Griesemer, 86, died at his home in Vero Beach, Fla. Born in Reading, he lived most of his adult life in Wyomissing, moving to Vero Beach in 2004. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was credited with saving his ship during the invasion of Okinawa. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1962 and remained a member of the Navy LCI Association. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1940 and attended Millersville State Teachers College. Following the war, he completed his bachelor's degree and earned a master's degree and certification in guidance from the University of Pennsylvania and vocational certification from Pennsylvania State University. He was an industrial arts teacher in the Reading School District and student services coordinator for Reading-Muhlenberg Vocational-Technical School. After retirement, Walter served 10 years with the Explorer programs of Boy Scouts of America. He was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Wyomissing. He was also a member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and Lodge 62 F&AM (42 years). He was also the president of the Griesemer Family Association for 22 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Virginia Lorraine Martin Griesemer. He is survived by daughters Fay Walters and Gail Griesemer of Vero Beach, Fla., and Dawn Wagner of Glennside, and grandchildren: Kristina, Meghan, Sarah, Martha and Edward. Memorial services were held in Calvary United Methodist Church, Wyomissing.
