5. Esther BERTOLET2,4
was born on 12 Aug 1720 in Minfield, Pfalz. She died on 7 Mar 1795

BERTOLET and Dr. George DEBENNEVILLE were married on 24 Dec 1745 in Oley Township,
Berks Co., PA. Dr. George DEBENNEVILLE2,4,9 was born on 26 Jul 1703 in London,
England. He died on 19 Mar 1793 in Philadelphia, PA.
He was buried in Philadelphia, PA. He is the founder of Universalism
in America of which denomination he was the first expounder in America. Held
meetings in Oley, eight miles southeast of Reading in the second story of his
farm house, which has been remodeled and is still standing. Was the son of George
De Benneville, born in Rouen, Normandy, whose father came to England in the suite
of Prince William of Orange. Queen Ann of England was his God-mother. Shortly
after an Indian invasion in 1755 at the Tulpehocken settlement, where 13 settlers
were killed. George and Esther moved to Branchtown, near Philadelphia. They
both died at their home in Branchtown and are buried in the family plot their,
which borders North Broad Street on its east side.
Jean and Susanna Bertolet had five children, the second daughter, Esther, later
becoming de Benneville's wife. They were married February 24, 1745, in the Bertolet
home. That same year de Benneville purchased 132 acres of land from Daniel Knabb,
near Berrolet's house. It was there that he and Esther built a beautiful home
in the valley, large enough to provide space for a house church searing up to
a hundred persons, and for a school and a place to house de Benneville's medical
practice. Of George and Esther's seven children, five were born in this house,
and six of them lived to be adults. The last, George de Benneville, Jr. was born
in 1760 and the last to die in 1850 at ninety years old. He, too, was a physician.

DEBENNEVILLE4 was born
on 20 Aug 1751 in Oley Township, Berks Co., PA. She died on 25 Mar
1813. Married Johann Jacob Livington. | 31 | iv. | Daniel DEBENNEVILLE4 was born on 12 Nov 1753 in Oley Township, Berks Co.,
PA. He died on 4 Aug 1827. After receiving an education
under the care of his father, he began the study of medicine, but the date of
his entering upon its practice is not known. He joined the army as a junior surgeon
of the flying hospital, and on July 3, 1781, as surgeon of the Thirteenth Regiment
of Infantry, Continental army. He was remarkable for his skill as a surgeon,
and distinguished for his warm-hearted sympathy for the sick and wounded. In
personal appearance he resembled Andrew Jackson, whose friend he was. After
the war he married Elizabeth Coats, and settled in Moorestown, Burlington County.
His marriage union was unhappy, and he failed to secure the respect of the community.
At the age of seventy-five, he died at his brother's house, and was buried in
